What You'll Catch

The diverse waters around Valemount are home to an impressive variety of species. Rainbow trout are the most common catch across the region's lakes and rivers. Bull trout inhabit the deeper, colder waters, while lake trout can be found in Kinbasket and Yellowhead Lakes. Kokanee salmon, lingcod, and mountain whitefish round out the offerings. Between Tete Jaune and Mount Robson, the Fraser River provides excellent shoreline fishing with easy access from the resort.

Licensing & Tips

A valid BC freshwater fishing license is required for all anglers. Licenses can be purchased online through the BC government website and are available for residents and non-residents alike. Be sure to review the regional regulations for catch limits and seasonal closures. The best fishing months in the Valemount area run from May through October, with early mornings and late evenings offering the most productive conditions. Pack layers, as mountain weather can change quickly, and always practice catch-and-release where required.
